The NECSC is currently building a balanced portfolio of research initiatives that represent the full range of development sites and projects common in U.S. cities. These include initiatives that entail the generation of energy- and resource-efficient alternatives for Greenfield, Brownfield and Greyfield development sites. All of the NECSC research initiatives strive to meet and to exceed SmartGrowth and LEED-ND performance objectives by utilizing a systems approach to generate integrated technology, policy, planning and market alternatives for development.
Although the NECSC collaborates on projects across the U.S. and around the world
(see: www.globalenergynetwork.org), most of its research focuses on projects in City of Chula Vista, California – the future national demonstration site for sustainable community development (see Demonstrations). The following project brief describes research currently underway:
